Europe Helmet Market Outlook

Strengthening of government regulations; integration of heads-up display (HUD) in helmets; built-in Bluetooth communication in helmets; and the integration of rear view cameras in helmets are the major trends impacting the Europe helmet market growth
While the former ECE 22.05 standards focused on just 5 safety tests to assess the quality of helmets, the introduction of ECE 22.06 standards by UNECE is expected to promote significant changes in helmet manufacturing in Europe, thereby promoting the market growth.
Integrated heads-up display (HUD) technology provides important information, such as road alerts, navigation directions, and speed, directly into the biker’s field of vision, thereby minimising distractions and enhancing the rider’s convenience and safety.
Built-in Bluetooth communication in helmets enables bike riders to take hand-free calls, stream music, and access Google, Siri, or other voice-assisted functionalities. This fosters a sense of coordination and camaraderie among group riders by ensuring clear communication.
Safety helmets equipped with rear-view cameras enable riders to effectively monitor traffic conditions and make lane changes safely. This is extremely beneficial in dense urban traffic roads and high-speed highways, where it is crucial to maintain situational awareness.
In 2022, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe introduced ECE 22.06 homologation helmet standards. Under these new regulations, bike helmets are required to undergo 18 safety tests, including a performance assessment of sun visors and intercom systems, coupled with the examination of their impact resistance characteristics during low and high-speed crashes. The new standards require additional tests involving assessment of rotational impact at different speeds including 7.5, 6, and 8 m/s. This is expected to bolster the demand for helmets in Europe over the forecast period.
