Europe Battery Charger Market Outlook
*this image is indicative*
The growing adoption of EVs, the proliferation of the consumer electronics sector, and the rising trend of wireless charging are some of the most prominent drivers for the growth of the Europe battery charger market. Several government bodies in the EU are providing incentives such as subsidies to boost the purchase of electric vehicles and further increase the market growth.
As the utilisation of renewable energy sources grows in European countries, there is a rising demand for battery chargers that can efficiently store energy, especially considering intermittent power supplies. Moreover, this increasing demand for battery chargers is driven by the requirement to optimise energy storage from renewable sources for maintaining a stable energy grid.
According to the Europe battery charger industry analysis, the adoption of smart chargers that can adjust charging speed based on power availability and battery life is also on the rise. Furthermore, as the demand for rapid charging, especially in the EV sector, continues to grow, there is an increasing requirement for high-capacity charging stations, which can significantly reduce charging time.
Increasing EV sales, rising consumption of electronic products, development of public charging infrastructure, and technological advancements are accelerating the Europe battery charger market value.
May 2024
MAHLE Aftermarket, a leading global supplier of battery chargers launched its new battery diagnostic system “E-health Charge” in the European market. The system reported the health and performance status of high-voltage EV batteries. Known as the fastest battery diagnostic technology in the European market with a run time of only 15 minutes, it could also be used as a DC charger, when required.
March 2024
Germany-based Siemens Smart Infrastructure launched a new variant of its SICHARGE D EV fast-battery charger, with an additional output of 400kW. The new variant met all the market standards and protocols, being a viable solution for the IEC markets. It also came with an additional SICHARGE D dispenser capable of aptly charging up to four EVs simultaneously.
April 2023
France-based Exide Technologies, a global supplier of batteries and battery chargers launched three new chargers for its Marine and Leisure Equipment Li-ion battery range. The batteries were developed with intelligent heating functions allowing charging at low temperatures, Bluetooth function that connects them with smartphones, and a battery management system (BMS) to provide protection against improper use.
September 2021
Switzerland-based ABB launched an all-in-one EV battery charger, Terra 360, known to provide the fastest charging in the market. It could charge up to four EVs at a time with a maximum output of 360 kW in just 15 minutes, saving time for drivers.
Increase in Electric Vehicle Sales Driving Europe Battery Charger Market Growth
Increased sales of electric vehicles is one of the primary drivers of the battery charger market in the country. In 2023, around 25% of the global EV sales were recorded in Europe. Further, one of every five European cars registered during this period was electric, indicating its growing demand among regional automobile buyers. As the demand for EVs further increases owing to sustainability concerns, the battery charger industry in Europe is expected to witness a sharp surge in demand.
Rising Consumption of Electronic Products Adding to Europe Battery Charger Market Revenue
Technological advancements and the frequent use of electronic products are increasing their demand among European customers, positively impacting the sale of portable battery chargers in the region. According to the European Commission, the year 2022 marked a sale worth EUR 355 billion which was a 10.2% growth from the previous year. Electronic telecommunication devices, which mainly use portable chargers for battery charging purposes accounted for the largest share. With further digitisation among European customers, the sale of electronic devices is expected to increase, driving the sale of battery chargers.
Public Charging Infrastructure Development Bolstering the Battery Charger Demand Growth
The development of public charging infrastructure has made it easy to access battery chargers for electric vehicles (EV), thereby increasing their supply in the region’s battery charger market. Key industry players are tapping into this new opportunity to grow their business in the industry. For instance, in 2023, Elli, a Volkswagen Group brand launched a pan-European charging infrastructure for electric vehicles fleet for EV companies in Europe.
Technological Advancements Creating Manufacturing Opportunities for Smart Battery Chargers
Research and development in the battery charger industry is leading to the manufacturing of smart chargers with exclusive AI and automation features. Market players are investing in these scientific features eyeing future growth prospects. For instance, Yuasa, a leading battery manufacturer in Europe launched a new range of fully automatic YCX smart battery chargers in Frankfurt, Germany in September 2023. The chargers have an automatic maintenance mode that sustains optimum charging during battery storage. Further, they have enhanced safety features such as short circuits due to overcharging, reverse polarity protection, and navigation buttons as well as LED indicators for ease of use.
