China is a top feed-producing country. China’s feed demand is witnessing a rise with the continued swine restocking and growing livestock sector. In 2023, China had 11 production plants with an annual feed output of more than 500,000 tons, with the maximum output of a single plant being 1.31 million tons. The increase in commercial feed tonnage is driven by the recovery and transformation of China’s pig sector, and swine farms contracting with professional feed mills. The growing living standards of the Chinese population and the rising demand for high-protein foods are supporting the China animal feed market growth.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, China’s corn production estimate for 2023-24 increased 4.2% to 288.8 million tonnes, with a higher planted area and heavier rainfall. Supportive government policies are leading to an increase in soy planted area, further contributing to the market expansion. It is estimated that China will harvest 296 million tonnes of corn in 2024-25, representing a 2.4% increase over the previous marketing year.
In 2023, 13 provinces produced over 10 million tons of feed nationally, the same as 2022. The provinces include Shandong, Guangxi, Guangdong, Liaoning, Sichuan, Henan, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Hebei, Anhui, Fujian, and Jiangxi.
