Meat and dairy-based products are gaining prominence among health-conscious consumers who are consuming these products in moderation to get the maximum benefits.
Animal feed providers in the country are also making efforts to enhance the nutritional value of the animal feed formulations to eventually improve the health and growth of the livestock. This is supported by installing high-end machinery and automated systems which can boost feed production efficiency at a cost-effective price.
According to Algeria animal feed industry analysis, there are increased efforts to develop unique animal feed products that can fulfil the specific dietary requirements of different kinds of animal breeds. This ensures the health and well-being of the livestock animals as well as the quality of the animal-based products.
Growing preference for fast food, rise in poultry farming, and introduction of Halal Certification for the sale of poultry and meat products are accelerating Algeria animal feed market value.
April 2024
The Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry in Algeria signed a pact with Qatari food business Baladna, for investment worth USD 3.5 billion. The investment amount is being used to develop the world’s largest integrated dairy farming and production facility in the country. The facility, once operational, will increase the demand for animal feed drastically.
March 2024
Richi Machinery, known for its animal feed production line across the North African region, launched its new premium feed project in Algeria. The project includes three 350-meter high-grade broiler feed production lines and a 0.5-ton/batch high-grade premix production line project. These facilities adopt RICHI's advanced process design, which provides broilers with a full-day worth of energy and nutrients necessary for efficient production, effectively reducing costs, increasing operational value, and improving feed quality.
January 2024
Algeria’s public agency ONAB announced its imports of a significant volume of animal feed corn from Argentina and soymeal from other regions through international tenders. The corn tender sought up to 120,000 metric tonnes of feed whereas the soymeal tender sought up to 35,000 metric tonnes of feed, according to industry reports.
March 2021
The Algerian government published a new executive order to remove the internal value-added tax (VAT) on imports of corn, barley, and other materials required for animal feed. However, the exemption applies only to a subset of buyers. Before the issuance of the order, the VAT charged on these commodities was 19%.
An Increase in Population Propels the Growth of the Algeria Animal Feed Market
Algeria’s increasing population has raised the demand for poultry food consumption in the country thereby propelling the growth of market. According to the World Bank, the country’s population stood at 45,606,480, with a year-on-year growth rate of 1.54%. This resulted in a drastic increase in the country’s per capita poultry food consumption and demand. The trend is expected to continue during the forecast period, positively impacting the market.

Newly Introduced Halal Certification Encourages Domestic Animal Feed Production in Algeria
The Algerian government in June 2023 made it mandatory for all imported poultry and meat shipments to attain the Halal Certification. This decision has largely upscaled their domestic production and has helped the government maintain self-sufficiency by reducing imports.
