Press Release

India Data Centre Cooling Market to Grow at a CAGR of 12.4% During 2024-2032, Aided by the Expansion of Data Centre Capacities

India Data Centre Cooling Market

According to a new report by EMR titled, ‘India Data Centre Cooling Market Report and Forecast 2024-2032’, the market attained a value of about USD 558.21 million in 2023. The market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 12.4% in the forecast period of 2024-2032 to reach a value of USD 1,598.43 million by 2032.

The rapid increase in data volume, driven by the growing need for digital services, social media, and video streaming, is prompting companies like Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) to expand their data centre capacities, aiding the India data centre cooling market expansion. Efficient cooling systems are crucial to manage the influx of data traffic and dissipate the heat generated by densely concentrated computing equipment.

India is the leading country in the Asia Pacific region (excluding China) when it comes to data centre capacity, with a total of 950 MW. In 2023, there was a significant increase of 255 MW in new supply compared to 200 MW in 2022, resulting in a total stock of around 1,030 MW by the end of the year. This rapid growth is expected to continue in 2024, with a planned supply of more than 330 MW distributed across various cities, potentially increasing the stock by 30% annually to reach approximately 1,370 MW. The total data centre stock in India in 2023 was 16 million square feet.

As of November 2023, India is ranked 14th in the world with a total of 151 data centres. The significant growth potential in India's data centre sector is driven by the demands of the IT sector and global capability centres (GCC), the expanding digital economy, including social media, e-commerce, digital transactions, online gaming, and streaming services, as well as the shift towards hybrid workplaces. This presents substantial investment opportunities for businesses offering high-quality data centre cooling solutions and services.

In February 2024, scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, Chennai, developed a new device for cooling data centres called the ‘Integrated Flat Thermosyphon Heat Sink (IFTHS)’. IFHTS, featuring condensers integrated with hollow fins, can increase the lifespan of electronic components by 3.73–17.75 times. It can also reduce the load of room air cooling by 8.04–25.12 kJ/kg while contributing to energy-efficient chip-level thermal management in energy-intensive data centres.
