The human spine is a complicated structure that protects the spinal cord and supports the trunk. It is made up of vertebrae and the discs between them, which act as shock absorbers and neutralise mechanical shocks. However, as one gets older, muscle density, bone strength, and intervertebral disc flexibility decline; as a result, the lumbar portion of the spine loses its flexibility and capacity to absorb mechanical shocks, resulting in lower back discomfort. Lower back discomfort affects around 80% of persons over the age of 50. However, this can also be seen in teenagers. Although physiotherapy may treat roughly 90% of back pain and restore the patient's ability after a time, 10% of back pain is acute and cannot be addressed with physiotherapy and requires surgery.
Back traction is one of the oldest treatment methods in intervertebral disc physiotherapy. It is not, however, indicated for acute disc herniation. The back traction approach minimises strain on the joint surfaces by creating a distance between joints. As a result, the pressure on the neural root and the risk of inflammation are reduced, and the disc returns to its natural place as the ligaments are stretched. Back traction relaxes the muscles and corrects the aberrant curvature of the spinal cord column.
In the USA, low back pain is a very common spinal complaint among adults, with possible causes including overuse, strain, injury, compression fracture, age, and disorders like as arthritis and osteoporosis. Such patients are in greater need of traction/hospital beds.
In Europe, healthcare systems are confronted with a number of challenges, including public expectation of more effective and efficient care. Thus, policymakers and healthcare organisations are under increasing pressure to improve care quality.
In light of the above, USA and Europe are expected to be significant markets for acute care hospital beds.
Hospitals in India are in high demand from both foreign and domestic investors. The Government's intentions to expand public health spending to 2.5 percent of GDP by 2025 is also expected to assist the hospital industry. There is an enormous demand for tertiary care hospitals, particularly speciality hospitals.
India's hospital bed density is less than half that of the global average of three hospital beds per 1,000 inhabitants. Further, demand for health services is increasing in Tier 2 and Tier 3 regions across the country. The per-capita income in these areas has risen considerably in recent years. Thus, growing need, increased income and government initiatives are expected to drive the market in India.
Traction therapy involves the application of a longitudinal force to the axis of the spinal column. Therapy can be administered either manually or mechanically. Both types of traction therapy usually require a traction table or bed. Traction beds have been found to be very effective for disc mobility and lower back pain alleviation.
