The global market for automotive brake fluids is predicted to be driven by developing infrastructure, growing driving speeds, and continual innovations in the automotive sector. The primary markets are projected to be North America, Europe, and Asia.
Brake fluid is a kind of hydraulic fluid employed in hydraulic clutch and brake applications in vehicles. The fluid transfers force into pressure, and amplifies braking force. When pressure is applied on the brake pedal, the brake fluid shifts this force to rear and front brakes to slow down, and consequently, stop the vehicle. Currently, brake fluids fall under one of the following specifications - DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 5 and DOT 5.1. Brake fluids must possess certain qualities and fulfill particular quality standards. Brake fluids are exposed to high temperatures, particularly in wheel cylinders of drum brakes and disk brake calipers, thus, brake fluid must have a high boiling point to prevent vaporization within the lines. If vaporization occurs, it nullifies the hydraulic transfer of braking force (because vapour is more compressible than liquid) and the brakes fail to stop the moving vehicle.
Majority of brake fluids employed today are glycol-ether based; these include DOT 3, 4, and 5.1 brake fluids that are hygroscopic (i.e., absorb atmospheric moisture). Glycol based brake fluid begin moisture absorption almost immediately after being placed in the hydraulic brake system or exposed to air. The problem aggravates in wet climates with high humidity. DOT 5 brake fluid is hydrophobic and silicone based, thus, it repels water. As the silicone fluid does not absorb atmospheric moisture while in use, it offers better service life and enhances corrosion resistance of the key elements of the braking system. While silicone-based DOT 5 was designed to offer higher temperature performance as compared to glycol DOT 4, it does not provide lubrication to ABS pumps comparable to glycol-based fluids.

Companies are constantly seeking ways to maximize value through their offerings across aspects, including innovation, technological advancements and sustainability. Such efforts are expected to stimulate the market. For example, in 2022, FUCHS introduced a brand-new bottle design for its small pack automotive lubricants to maximise customer benefits through new labels, ergonomic design and added sustainability (by the use of recycled materials). According to the company, the small pack retail sector was a significant growth area in Africa. The new look and feel were also extended to MAINTAIN, an ancillary range of coolants, cleaners and brake fluids, among other brands.
In 2022, Advanced Intelligent Chassis Systems (ADVICS) introduced a line of ultra-premium brake fluids - DOT 3 and DOT 4 LV formulations for disc, drum and ABS systems. Both formulations were ultra-premium synthetic with high wet and dry boiling points (DOT 3 wet 307 degrees Fahrenheit, dry 500 degrees Fahrenheit; DOT 4 LV wet 355 degrees Fahrenheit, dry 510 degrees Fahrenheit) surpassing industry standards. Through these solutions, the company sought to offer consumers a complete ultra-premium brake product offering.
