Deschlorocarbethoxy loratadine is then hydrolysed using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to produce desloratadine. The chemical reaction is as follows:

C22H22ClN3 + NaOH + H2O → C19H19ClN2 (Desloratadine) + CH3OH + CO2 + NaCl

Step 3: Purification

The crude desloratadine is purified using recrystallisation or chromatography techniques to obtain a high-purity product.

Step 4: Conversion to Desloratadine Hydrochloride

Desloratadine is converted to its hydrochloride salt by reacting with hydrochloric acid (HCl). The chemical reaction is as follows:
