The one-pot method is used for the preparation of dapsone. In this method, firstly nitrobenzene sulfonyl chloride is taken as a raw material and mixed with methanol (solvent) for the desulphurisation reaction, which removes sulphur from the compound. This reaction is performed under copper acetate to obtain the intermediate compound, para-dinitrophenyl sulfone. In the last step, sodium hydrosulphite is added to the intermediate compound in the reaction system to produce dapsone, which is then purified for usage in the industrial sector.

4. Coupling of Diazonium Salt with Sulfanilic Acid:

Reaction: C6H5ClN2⺠+ C6H7NO3S → Dapsone (C12H12N2O2S) + HCl
Conditions: Aqueous coupling under basic conditions.

2(C6H5Cl) + 2HNO3 + 6H2 + HNO2 + C6H7NO3S → Dapsone (C12H12N2O2S) + 3H2O + HCl
