Mid-February saw further shifts in commodity trends. Palm oil prices rose due to supply concerns and stronger crude oil futures. Soybean prices increased then fell on higher US stocks, while maize prices corrected downward on bearish fundamentals. Sugar prices rose due to reduced Brazilian production, and wheat prices surged on supply concerns. Copper prices showed an upward trend on tightening supply, while iron ore prices increased slightly on lower shipments and stronger demand. Aluminium prices rose significantly, influenced by heightened market activity and speculative buying. In the chemicals market, ethylene prices witnessed a rising trend due to supply constraints and high demand. Benzene prices increased due to higher crude oil and gasoline prices, while propylene prices notably inclined in the 6th week, followed by a downward correction in the 7th week. Precious metals continued their rally, with gold prices witnessing a significant rising trend driven by safe-haven demand amid global economic uncertainties. Platinum prices also rose significantly, nearing a three-month high. Crude oil prices showed slight fluctuations, with a dip followed by a mild recovery, while natural gas prices rose due to increased heating needs from a winter storm in the US.
