As per the survey conducted by Expert Market Research, 32.35% of the respondents opt for smart home devices because of convenience and efficiency followed by home security and energy savings as side concerns.

Smart home devices have completely changed our perception towards home appliances. It’s no longer limited to tube lights and heaters but now you can security check on your place even if you are sitting miles away. As per a comprehensive survey conducted by Expert Market Research across top tier 1 and 2 cities, which included 60,000 respondents, the insights delve deep into what motivates people to opt for smart home devices.

Drivers to Consider Before Purchasing Smart Home Devices

As per the results derived from the survey, 32.32% of the respondents integrate smart home devices in their lives because of convenience and safety while 19.61% and 13.73% of the sample size because of home security and energy saving concerns. This study aims to analyze the drivers which motivate people to go for smart home devices and among those, which is the most preferred one. It is a clear sign that convenience and safety as a factor to opt for smart home devices dominates other factors with a share of 32.35%. Though home security and safety also hold a major share of 19.61% surpassing other factors such as energy saving, customization of products, technological advancement etc.

Convenience and efficiency being the topmost factor aptly agrees to the fact that smart home devices simplify your routine tasks and allow you to focus on what actually matters. They automatically adjust to your preferences and what you want to have in your space and customize devices’ functions accordingly. As smart home devices emit lower carbon footprints thus are capable of higher energy efficiencies, our finance minister launched ‘PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana’ in the 2024-25 budget to encourage the same. In this scheme, smart home devices such as smart thermostats operating on solar panels would be given subsidies to install rooftop solar panels. In addition, as per the latest edition of “India Connected Consumer Report”, majority of the respondents chose the reason “convenience and efficiency” to opt for smart devices as it significantly improves the quality of their lifestyle.

Smart Home Devices Are Becoming Popular

Valuable insights derived from our study depict that those individuals including smart home devices in their daily life prioritizes convenience and efficiency to be the most significant factor. This may include consumers who are price-sensitive or those who prioritize convenience, aesthetics and customizations. However, if we look at the segmentation based on profession, convenience majorly attracts those who are either corporate workers or business professionals as after long working hours, convenience and cost savings is what they need the most. We further look into what motivates users to install smart home devices assess the kind of benefit consumers are expecting from it.
